Word with a Bird: A Sensory + Ability Inclusive Story Time

Join us for Word with a Bird, a sensory-friendly story time designed for youth of all abilities and their families. We’ll begin with warm introductions to create a welcoming and comfortable environment before settling in for an engaging story led by Audubon Great Plains—all about the fascinating world of owls! Accompanied by a playful puppet and a silent video of real owl activity, this story invites wonder, curiosity, and connection.

Following story time, families are invited to explore hands-on activities in the Art Lounge, including a touch table inspired by Deep Ecology. Participants can discover a variety of tactile materials—such as clay bird and armadillo sculptures, tissue paper textures, metal mesh, and soft feathers—encouraging sensory engagement and creative exploration.

For those interested, our Community Enagement Manager, Alatera McCann, will lead an optional, relaxed tour of Deep Ecology, offering a closer look at the artworks and themes that inspired the activities.
