A little about the artist:
Jess Schmidt is an intuitive artist from Fergus Falls, MN currently based out of Fargo, ND.
Jess has been painting since she was a child but began a serious focus in acrylic and fluorescent aerosol in 2016. Jess is a primarily self-taught artist and has arrived at her current process independently.
The process in which Jess evolves her work is unique in that she begins by priming her canvas in acrylic, completes line work in lighter acrylic, then finishes her pieces with a fluorescent aerosol.
This process creates an ombre of depth.
Jess completes this style of intricate line work to stay present and embody a meditative state. A majority of Jess’s body of work is meant to reflect experiences related to personal challenges, development, and growth. Her work is made to act as a mirror for the viewer to look inside themselves.
Jess utilizes the scans of her completed works to edit digitally and create various sublimation textiles for clothing and home items.
Jess’s gallery introduction was the Emerging Artist Exhibition at LRAC in early 2022.
Jess completed her first solo exhibition “A Feast for The Eyes” (The collected works of Jess Schmidt) in the Summer of 2022.
At the end of 2022 Jess began painting live at music and arts festivals, concerts, and community events.
In 2023 Jess completed her second solo exhibition “Ignite” at the Kaddatz Gallery in Fergus Falls, MN. “Ignite” is the first in a series of planned exhibitions that will emulate an engine of Joy once the series is completed; Spark being the second.
Jess’s next planned exhibition in the series will be "Combustion" which she plans to begin works 2026.
