Event Details

Saltydog, a folk-driven, funky improvisational rock band from Duluth, Minn., makes its debut at The Aquarium on Thursday, July 30. The show is the opener of the band’s first tour farther west, which will take the sextet to Montana and Washington. Saltydog has played Fargo before — regularly performing at Dempsey’s Public House downstairs from The Aquarium. Saltydog is a band with two brothers at its heart that devoted much creativity to song writing — the band just released its third LP Runnin Again in January to a sold-out audience at Turf Club in Saint Paul, Minn. A stacked catalog of originals serve as a vehicle for improvisational exploration that takes everyone in the room on a journey. The band’s influences range from The Band to Talking Heads.

Sharing The Aquarium bill is Fargo-based The Forefeathers, a band influenced by alternative, funk, reggae and jam bands. This tour is a realization of a dream for Owen Mahon, who along with his brother Jacob, formed the band originally named New Salty Dog.

“This has been a dream of mine since I was a little tiny kid,” Owen Mahon recently told Jam in the Stream.
