BIOGRAPHY: Carmen Bruhn is an award-winning artist with a sincere connection to line and color, stemming from her prior career as an architect and her rich cultural heritage in the Republic of Panama. Her artistic journey is driven by the creative process and her fertile imagination, with risk and adventure.
Bruhn's work has evolved over time from watercolor renditions to embrace acrylic media with interest in experimentation and abstraction. Her love for color continues to inspire her palette; her use of marks, stylized shapes, and patterns speaks with her artistic voice. There is a feeling of joy in her paintings that invites viewers to explore the intricacies of her vision.
A life-long learner she continues her art studies through workshops, teaching, and learning from other artists. When Carmen is not painting she loves cooking up her favorite dish, writing, yoga, and spending time with her family in her current home in Detroit Lakes, MN.
ARTIST STATEMENT: The need to create has always been central to who I am, first in my earlier career as an architect and later in my personal journey as a water-media painter. Today I am having the best time creating art that speaks with my personal voice.
This group of paintings from my series “Why Not” came about my interest in further exploring the design elements of color, line and shape in my work. My artistic journey continues, and taking risks is leading me to my most cohesive voice yet.
